Employees from Roke Manor Research in Romsey, Hampshire, who went the extra mile to deliver outstanding customer service have been recognised at Siemens' first national 'Think Customer' award ceremony, held in Nottingham recently.

Over 260 employees representing Siemens businesses from across the UK attended the glittering Oscars-stlye event, staged at Carlton's television studios. Roke Manor Research employees Mark Treasure and Richard Winterbottom were presented with the 'Internal customer' award by Alan Wood, chief executive of Siemens in the UK.

The pair, who work in the company's model shop, together produced the intricate metal housings needed for a major classified Government contract. Knowing the tight deadlines the business was up against, they came up with various timesaving suggestions that saved precious hours for the engineering development team. Their commitment helped ensure the project was completed on time and their ingenuity reduced budget costs.

The award was one of seven presented to Siemens employees from around the UK who had displayed exemplary customer service throughout the course of their work. Other categories included 'Going the extra mile', and 'Saving the day'. Each of the nominations competing for an award was endorsed by a Siemens managing director, and the entries were evaluated by a panel of eight judges.

Alan Wood, chief executive of Siemens plc in the UK, said he was delighted to be honouring those who had shown an outstanding dedication to customer service and that the company was very proud of them:

"The individuals and teams that have been presented with these awards are fantastic ambassadors for Siemens," he said. "Their commitment and determination to deliver the best possible service to their customers is an example to all Siemens employees. I am delighted that there are so many people helping the Siemens brand stand for excellent customer service, just as it stands for quality products and innovation."

Siemens employs over 18,000 people in the UK and has a turnover of £2,652.0 million. Business segments it operates in include information and communications, transportation, medical and domestic appliances.
