HRH The Duke of Kent visited Roke Manor Research on Wednesday 3rd November to see first-hand the cutting-edge technology being developed by one of the UK's leading innovative solutions providers. His Royal Highness toured Roke Manor Research's laboratories and watched a number of demonstrations given by members of staff, including HALO, one of the world's most advanced acoustic artillery location systems which can pin-point artillery and large explosions; and Pandora, which has been designed to detect the presence of illegal immigrants in freight vehicles. His Royal Highness was also shown Roke Manor Research's Video Motion Anomaly Detection (VMAD) system which can 'learn' normal behaviour and therefore provide an improved way of monitoring the video footage produced from CCTV security systems.
The Duke of Kent was accompanied by Captain Christopher Fagan, Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire; the Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley and Sir John Taylor, Chairman of Roke Manor Research. The Duke of Kent previously visited Roke Manor Research in 1985, then called Plessey Electronic Systems Research, when he officially opened a new laboratory building. |
