Siemens plc, the electronics and engineering company, today announced the company has signed a major sponsorship agreement supporting the London 2012 Olympic Bid.

Siemens has valuable expertise in key infrastructures and will provide a broad range of support including expertise in healthcare, traffic management, security and communications technology to London 2012. The agreement will give Siemens the right to use London 2012 branding and will enable Siemens to participate in all the key London 2012 milestone events and activities.

Siemens has an impressive 160-year history in the UK and a reputation for pioneering technologies and a commitment to society and the communities in which it operates.

We will be a proud and enthusiastic sponsor to London 2012, said Alan Wood, chief executive, Siemens plc. We fully understand the value of bringing the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to the UK. It will not only benefit London but the whole country in terms of pride and passion as well as investment and regeneration.

Lord Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Olympic Bid, said, Siemens is known globally for its commitment to sport from Formula 1 through to mountain biking. We are therefore delighted to welcome Siemens as a Major Partner today and look forward to working with them and their unique skill set in our quest to successfully bring the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to London.

London 2012 can benefit from Siemens’ extensive experience in global events, for example, the Athens Olympics, where Siemens provided a range of services including transportation, ticketing, medical infrastructure and C4I, one of the world’s most sophisticated, integrated, civil security and communications systems. Siemens was also heavily involved in the Euro 2004 Football Championships providing infrastructure for nine of the ten stadia.

In addition, Siemens will leverage its significant marketing and communications reach through Siemens’ UK businesses which employ 20,000 people, to champion the London 2012 Olympic bid message and inspire the support needed to bring the Games to the UK.
