Roke's Latest Defence and Security Solutions Touch Down at Farnborough International Airshow

Roke Manor Research will be showcasing its latest defence and security solutions on an innovative stand (D14, Hall 3) at the 45th Farnborough International Airshow (17-23 July 2006).

Through a series of interactive displays, Roke will be using the Airshow to exhibit its defence, autonomous systems, security and aircraft surveillance capabilities and products, as well as raising awareness of its new brand identity.

Key technology and capabilities being showcased this year include:

Commercial Technology for Military Advantage

  • Self-forming and healing resilient networks
  • COTS sensor, communications and network architectures for enhanced capability
  • COTS technology for urban networked sensor solutions

Autonomous Systems

  • Auto-landing for Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs)
  • Mapping and exploration of buildings by autonomous robots
  • Technology for navigation, control and communications

Safety, Security and Surveillance

  • Whole sky estimation of cloud cover and visibility for airport weather monitoring
  • RFID solutions for reading multiple-tagged assets
  • Vigilance™ wide area multilateration for accurate, low-cost airspace surveillance

Roke draws on a range of core skills to deliver military advantage and exploits commercial developments to deliver cheaper COTS-based solutions. Its expertise is acknowledged through participation in a number of Ministry of Defence (MoD) programmes, including Towers of Excellence and Defence Technology Centres.

During a recent visit Roke was praised by HRH the Duke of York, who saw service in the Falklands campaign, for its role in developing technology which protects soldiers, sailors and airmen from various threats throughout the world.
