Tuesday, 21 November 2006 00:00

Roke Manor Research has reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging more young people to take an interest in science and engineering by donating £10,000 to The Royal Academy of Engineering's Best Programme.

2006-RAE-Dontation.tnBest, which stands for 'Better Engineering, Science, Technology' is an engineering education scheme geared towards recruiting the brightest young people into the engineering profession to fulfil the needs of the economy, and creating beneficial partnerships between industry and education. Roke’s contribution will help the Royal Academy of Engineering to launch a pilot scheme in London and Glasgow to engage students before they make their GCSE choices. It will also assist with a strategy to target schools with good maths and science, but no record of students taking up engineering studies and careers.

Professor Matthew Harrison, Director of Education Programmes at The Royal Academy of Engineering said:

"I am delighted that Roke Manor Research has chosen to support The Royal Academy of Engineering's Best Programme with this generous donation. The programme works to inspire young children with the excitement of future-facing engineering of the kind that Roke undertake every day. The donation will enable the Academy to provide richer engineering experiences for more young people, knowing that an early and positive experience of engineering is the most effective way to convince them that engineering is a stimulating and worthwhile career."
