Roke Appointed as the UK Government Approved HAIPE Conformance Test Facility

Friday, 02 July 2010 00:00

Roke Manor Research has been appointed by CESG, the Information Assurance arm of GCHQ, as the UK’s only High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryptor (HAIPE) Conformance Test Facility. All UK developed encryption devices utilising the HAIPE protocols must now be Conformance Tested by Roke before they can be approved as being "HAIPE compliant" by CESG.

Encryption illustrationTo complement its role as the UK’s Conformance Test Facility (CTF) Roke has launched the HAIPE Test Service, which will be used by vendors, system integrators and government departments. The fully customisable service includes device, interoperability, stress and performance testing, as well as system testing of the full network topology. Roke will also offer integration consultancy and customised testing, including the latest HAIPE versions.

Roke has designed the HAIPE Test Service to save both time and money as a pre-accreditation test programme which will verify that a HAIPE device conforms to the specifications. If a device fails those tests, the Roke team will offer recommendations on how to resolve issues before undertaking the full test and accreditation process.

David Smith, Managing Director, Roke Manor Research, said:

"In today’s electronic world, the public sector has an increasing demand for cryptographic products to safeguard data. Roke worked with CESG to define profiles for the HAIPE specification using our significant knowledge of the underlying network and security protocols. The combination of our HAIPE knowledge, our independence and our extensive experience of testing for fixed and mobile networks in the commercial and defence sectors makes us the ideal choice to be the CTF for HAIPE. Our appointment as the HAIPE CTF for the UK is testament to our pedigree in this area and a springboard to expanding the test facility to offer testing of other cryptographic standards."
