"Having spent my previous twelve years working in IT for a government department and in an American IT Services company, the move to Roke has been a breath of fresh air (literally as well as metaphorically, having moved from a concrete jungle near the centre of Basingstoke to the countryside outside Romsey).

The most striking difference from my point of view has been the breadth of IT systems in use in a comparatively small company. I have been exposed to a far greater diversity of systems (and therefore opportunities to learn) in the past few years at Roke than in any of the 12 years beforehand. This diversity of systems means that no two days are the same and that we never know where the next challenge will come from.

Working in a fairly small team offers the opportunity to own projects and take full responsibility for seeing them through from inception to implementation. It's great knowing that the support will be there should I need it, but that I'll be left alone to get things done otherwise.
The social side is also excellent. I have been a regular participant in the annual rounders tournament on site, play in the summer tennis league (also on site), play table tennis and go circuit training in the social club, and spend one evening a week in summer walking the banks of our stretch of the River Test with fly rod in hand - probably the ultimate way to wind down after a hard days work!"
