Consultant Engineer - Database Specialist (NF108)

We seek a talented software developer with a strong focus on databases to provide database related expertise across a range of development and consultative activities.

The ideal candidate would understand how to identify and solve complex data storage problems in respect to the requirements on data analysis, ingest and retrieval. Essential Responsibilities

  • Various database related design, implementation and development tasks across Roke’s products and projects
  • Support Roke’s presales and business-development functions in understanding how data is stored and how this impacts what can be done with the data
  • Provide timely and accurate estimates for project deliverables
  • Be an influential enabler of new ideas through strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Maintain awareness across new database and data exploitation technologies and methodologies
  • Work closely with testing and QA functions to ensure software quality
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders in a matrix structure

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Knowledge of at least 2 major popular databases; SQL Server, Oracle or mySQL
  • Strong Linux skills
  • Some development experience in an OO structured language such as Java or C++
  • A broad understanding of major middleware components like Enterprise Service Buses / Message Oriented Middleware and application servers
  • A good awareness of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)
  • A general awareness of technologies for information analysis and visualisation
  • A keen interest in technology and its application

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Some exposure to formal modelling methodologies such as UML, Sys-ML or MODAF
  • Some exposure to event based data processing technologies such as Esper or JBoss Drools Fusion
  • General awareness of non-relational "NoSQL" database technologies
  • Windows skills

Due to the nature of this position, candidates must be willing to undergo, and eligible to achieve HMG security clearance (prior to appointment). As a result, candidates must hold a British passport and have resided in the UK for the last 5 years.
