Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer – Technical Architect (NF111)

We seek a talented DSP engineer with experience in developing communication, radar or acoustics algorithms utilising a range of real-time platforms in a development and/or product environment.

The ideal candidate would be proficient in algorithm development, modelling, digital subsystem design and real-time development. The candidate will have good embedded software and/or FPGA development skills.

Grade and salary will be commensurate with relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provision of expertise in the area digital signal processing to projects and bids
  • Provide timely and accurate estimates for project deliverables
  • Provide technical leadership to customer meetings
  • Provide support to DSP technical strategy
  • Maintain awareness across new DSP technologies and methodologies
  • To apply and scale DSP engineering processes effectively
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders in a matrix structure

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree qualified (2.1 or above) or equivalent in relevant engineering, scientific or technical-based discipline.
  • Strong DSP algorithm development skills in the area of Communications, Acoustics or Radar
  • Experience of algorithm modelling
  • Experience of Embedded C/C++
  • Experience of high-speed real-time software development and DSP platform knowledge (e.g. TI OMAP C64, ADI TS202, Picochip array)
  • Experience of using configuration management tools, awareness of differing lifecycles and associated methodologies.
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and lead initiatives/activities if required

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of FPGA development and associated methodologies /tools (e.g. Xilinx ISE, Altera Quartus, Modelsim,..)
  • Experience of digital PCB design and associated methodologies/ tools (e.g. Altium, Mentor,..)
  • Experience of Python in the use test scripts and/or post-data processing
  • Experience of multi-core platforms, multi-threaded development and associated real-time operating systems
  • An understanding of DSP subsystem interactions in the wider system context (e.g. RF architecture, network interfacing, etc)
  • Possession of national security and/or defence domain knowledge in areas such as Special Projects, Counter-IED, communications infrastructure, and surveillance
  • Awareness of bid and project management processes
