Senior Consultant Engineer – Vision Processing (DP115)

To provide technical leadership and support business development activities in the ISTAR and sensor surveillance domain, with particular emphasis on vision and image processing.

In addition to strong technical skills the candidate will need to demonstrate:

  • Good communications skills
  • Excellent leadership skills acting as a technical authority or team lead
  • Commercial awareness
  • An understanding of bid/project management processes and the ability to apply and scale them as necessary

Other required attributes are the ability to work within a team environment or alone if necessary, excellent problem solving skills and system level thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Technical lead at customer meetings
  • Coordinating opportunities and winning work across multiple domains, mapping sensor technologies and capabilities into different domains
  • Technical leadership and management of bids, coordinating input from multiple stakeholders
  • Technical consultancy to projects and bids in vision and sensor surveillance, providing mentoring and guidance to other staff
  • Development and implementation of strategy for exploiting technical offerings as products
  • Leadership of technical strategy and identification of technology trends.
  • Championing engineering processes appropriate to exploitation of research.

Education

  • Honours degree (2:1 minimum) in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Defence domain knowledge - ISTAR or sensor surveillance in particular (medical, industrial or national security domain knowledge is also desirable)
  • Vision processing or image processing expertise (radar, acoustics and data fusion expertise is also desirable)
  • Knowledge challenges associated with real world camera hardware and vision systems
  • Mathematical algorithm development and software (C/C++) highly desirable, ideally with experience of 3D systems.
  • Development and delivery of sensor surveillance or vision products within the defence ISTAR and other military domains.
  • Delivery of real world systems into military programmes.
  • Management of bids and projects, leadership of technical staff to deliver work to time and budget.

Due to the nature of this position, candidates must be willing to undergo, and eligible to achieve a high level of HMG security clearance (prior to appointment). As a result, candidates must hold a British passport and have resided in the UK for the last 5 years.
