Roke is home to the UK's official Conformance Test Facility for cryptographic products. Working in partnership with CESG, we provide the formal conformance and interoperability testing that is required for HAIPE® and PRIME certification.

Roke is home to the UK's official Conformance Test Facility for PRIME v1, HAIPE®v3 and HAIPE®v4. Working in partnership with CESG, we provide the conformance and interoperability testing that is required for formal certification.

PRIME

PRIME is the UK's framework for ensuring interoperability between networked cryptographic devices. PRIME compliant devices provide a secure gateway that allows trusted entities and networks to securely exchange data over an un-trusted network.

The conformance certification process for PRIME requires that a device proves its conformance to the PRIME framework specifications by undergoing independent conformance testing at the CESG approved Conformance Test Facility at our premises. Please contact us for further details or to request a Statement of Work containing all pricing and timescale information.

We currently work alongside CESG to enhance the Tester for IP Modular Encryption (TIME) tool with tests for additional PRIME modules. This is the software used to test that a candidate PRIME device is conformant to the PRIME framework as part of the formal certification process. TIME can also be customised to provide bespoke testing of proprietary features which are not related to PRIME.

In addition to formal testing, we recognise that cryptographic product vendors may require additional services before applying for formal testing. Thus we are able to provide a customised range of independent informal test support services, including:

  • Support in setting up the conformance testing tool at the Vendor's premises.
  • Customisation of the conformance testing tool's management interface to allow automated testing to take place using a proprietary remote management interface.
  • Informal testing prior to an application for formal testing.
  • Responsibility for either a part of or for the full system testing of the Vendor's device.

HAIPE®

HAIPE® is the United States of America's solution for ensuring interoperability between networked cryptographic devices. HAIPE® compliant devices provide a secure gateway that allows trusted entities and networks to securely exchange data over an un-trusted network.

Formal CTF testing for HAIPE® devices consists of conducting independent conformance and interoperability testing on a cryptographic device, where the test results feed directly into CESG's certification process. Please contact us for further details or to request a Statement of Work for formal HAIPE® conformance testing.

  • Support in setting up the HIT tool at the vendor's premises
  • Customisation of the HIT tool
  • Informal CTF testing prior to application for formal testing

Why use an External Test Facility

As an external test facility with ISO17025 accreditation and experience working with secure fixed and mobile networks we can add value to your project through a number of testing services. Our core hardware and software development experience enables us to interact with all levels of your development team. For example, we can offer your design team expert independent and impartial advice on any assumptions being made during the design process which may impact the performance or testability of the product. We can also provide realistic automated test systems as components of a continuous integration and test environment, optimising your development efforts and focusing your development teams on the product implementation. We are independent of any product manufacturer and therefore offer a totally impartial and confidential service.

Roke has a long track record of working with the IETF standards on which network cryptographic equipment standards such as HAIPE® and PRIME are based. We have been working with CESG to define the profiles for the HAIPE® specifications as well as providing a Conformance Test Facility for HAIPE® and PRIME devices, including providing the Tester for IP Modular Encryption (TIME) tool which is used during conformance testing. This, together with our independence in the crypto marketplace, puts us in a unique position of independent experts in the IP cryptographic device domain.
