HOW DEFENCE CYBER MARVEL 2026 STRENGTHENS OUR CYBER & AI CAPABILITY
The fifth instalment of Defence Cyber Marvel (DCM) took place this year in Singapore, connecting more than 2,500 participants across 29 global locations. As the UK’s premier annual cyber defence exercise, DCM brings together military cyber units, government specialists, international partners and industry experts to rehearse realistic, high‑pressure cyber defence scenarios.
DCM 2026 placed significant emphasis on emerging technologies, including:
- AI‑enabled threat detection and deception
- Quantum computing challenges
- Space‑based communication systems
- Critical national infrastructure defence
FROM HF COMMUNICATIONS TO FRONTLINE CYBER OPERATIONS
One of our Roke team members – also a Reservist with 94 Signals Squadron, 39 Signal Regiment – joined the DCM part of a joint UK–French team. Although the unit’s core military role is High Frequency (HF) communications, recent years have seen an increased focus on cyber‑focused training and international collaboration.
Over the course of the week, our colleague contributed to:
- Hardening Linux systems and protecting mission‑critical infrastructure
- Monitoring maritime tracking systems against adversary activity
- Responding to real‑time “user” issues in a live cyber range environment
- Leading on a quantum computing challenge, blending research, logic, and cyber defence analysis
The team achieved 8th place out of 35, outperforming many full-time cyber units.
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR ROKE
Supporting Reservists to participate in activities like this isn’t something we see as just an employee benefit – it directly strengthens our technical capability as an organisation.
Experiences like DCM:
- Provide first-hand exposure to advanced threat environments
- Enhance our understanding of AI‑driven cyber operations and defensive tooling
- Build insight into how allied nations collaborate under real-time pressure
- Broaden our perspective on critical national infrastructure defence
- Feed back into our work developing cutting-edge cyber, AI and digital resilience solutions
- Our teams benefit from talent that has operated in some of the most challenging, realistic cyber simulations anywhere in the world.
